Running a business with the guiding principles of yoga

We have set ourselves an interesting challenge.

How to run a business following the teachings of Yoga.

Running a business with the guiding principles of yoga involves integrating the core values of yoga into every aspect of your business practices.

We think it is going to go a little bit like this:

  • Ahimsa (Non-violence):
    • Treat employees, customers, suppliers, and competitors with kindness, compassion, and respect.
    • Foster a workplace environment free from hostility, discrimination, and harassment.
    • Ensure that your business practices prioritize the well-being of all stakeholders, including the environment.
  • Satya (Truthfulness):
    • Practice honesty and transparency in all your business dealings.
    • Communicate openly and truthfully with employees, customers, and partners.
    • Make decisions based on integrity and ethical considerations, even when it may be challenging.
  • Asteya (Non-stealing):
    • Respect the intellectual property rights of others and avoid plagiarism or unauthorized use of others’ work.
    • Offer fair compensation to employees and suppliers for their contributions.
    • Avoid exploiting resources or engaging in practices that harm the environment or communities.
  • Brahmacharya (Moderation):
    • Maintain balance and moderation in your business activities, avoiding excess or overwork.
    • Encourage employees to prioritize work-life balance and self-care.
    • Use resources efficiently and sustainably, minimizing waste and unnecessary consumption.
  • Aparigraha (Non-attachment):
    • Let go of attachment to outcomes and remain adaptable in the face of change.
    • Emphasize the journey of growth and learning over the pursuit of material success.
    • Cultivate a mindset of abundance and generosity, sharing resources and opportunities with others.
  • Santosha (Contentment):
    • Foster an atmosphere of gratitude and appreciation within the workplace.
    • Encourage employees to find fulfilment and satisfaction in their work and personal lives.
    • Celebrate achievements and milestones, both big and small, as a team.
  • Tapas (Discipline):
    • Cultivate discipline and dedication in your work ethic and business practices.
    • Set clear goals and objectives for yourself and your team, and work diligently towards achieving them.
    • Prioritize continuous improvement and learning, striving to grow personally and professionally.
  • Svadhyaya (Self-study):
    • Encourage self-reflection and introspection among employees, fostering personal growth and development.
    • Provide opportunities for learning and skill development, both within and outside the workplace.
    • Regularly evaluate your business practices and strategies, seeking feedback and insights for improvement.
  • Ishvara Pranidhana (Surrender):
    • Trust in the natural flow of life and business, surrendering to circumstances beyond your control.
    • Let go of ego-driven desires and embrace humility in leadership and decision-making.
    • Cultivate a sense of purpose and alignment with a higher vision or mission for your business.

By integrating these principles into our business, we can create a more conscious and mindful work environment that aligns with the holistic philosophy of yoga.
