Also named ‘The Green Farm’ because of the natural beauty of the property and the absence of chemicals, this extensive farm in Central Portugal has everything we were looking for – a rolling landscape, gorgeous old stone buildings, plenty of trees and a lot of history. It is only an hour from the Lisbon airport and 90 minutes to the Atlantic Ocean.
This ideal location is complemented by ideal weather, with lots of sunshine and clear blue skies. The winters are usually sunny, making this the ideal location for retreats and workshops at any time of the year.
The Green Farm is a working farm where everything is kept natural and organic. Some of our olive trees are over 150 years old, and the production of pure olive oil is a proud tradition continued today. While the olives are no longer pressed at the farm, the old olive mill is still intact and is an interesting part of the farm’s history.
The horses are important team members too, from the mini Shetlands, Janis and Toby, to the big Irish Draught horse, Mr Blue, they all bring unique personalities and offerings to the peace and wellbeing of our visitors. Riding holidays encompass the entire spectrum of experiences with horses, from trail rides to jumping or dressage lessons. Horse therapy and interactions are also part of the wellness offerings.
Originally from South Africa, we have had a rich and varied life moving around the world with our two children as Richard pursued his career as a Mining Engineer. Truly citizens of the world, we have lived in places as varied as rural Malaysia and glamorous Monaco; Richard has worked in Tajikistan, Russia, West Africa and South and Central America and we are now happy to be settled in the Portuguese countryside.
“The Green Farm is the realisation of a lifelong dream of mine to create a place of tranquility, beauty and connection, a place for therapy and restoration. I care deeply for the planet and all its inhabitants and love sharing this paradise with others. I am an experienced yoga teacher, Reiki Master and meditation leader. Horses are an integral part of my life on the farm, and I value them for their partnership in therapy and wellbeing.”

“I am an experienced yoga teacher who also enjoys creating tasty and healthy meals. The orchard and vegetable garden provide the raw ingredients for my fabulous jams, preserves and mouth-watering meals. When not conjuring up a feast I can be found behind my camera or with our horses, enjoying farm life.”

The fully catered retreats and events make use of organically grown vegetables from the farm or locally sourced produce.
Guests enjoy seasonal fresh food prepared in the farm kitchen, farm to table. Our food philosophy follows the belief that food is medicine, keeping us healthy and balanced no matter what is happening in the world.
Following a plant-based diet helps us achieve this, and we are happy to be pursuing our Bio (organic and chemical free) certification.
Portugal has a long tradition of producing honest and tasty red wines, a selection of which is available at our farm.
